Right now I'm using RSLinx to check the firmware version of every single freaking device and I/O slice on the machine, then going to AB's Download Site to check what the latest version is for that product. If I need to update the FW in any device, I download it, install it on my laptop, then use ControlFLASH on each device individually. If a device shows up as a '?' in RSlinx, I download and install the AOP. If there was any kind of update or it is a device I haven't used before, I upload the EDS files with RSLinx and install them if possible, but for many devices, I have to go out and download/install the EDS from the internet.

This is absolutely insane. I'm used to just clicking a button in my development environment (equivalent to RSLogix 5000) to check for updates and being shown every available update for the hardware I'm using. Devil may cry mugen game download. I select the ones I want and they download automatically. Device firmware is flashed by the PLC (upgraded or downgraded). If a new product comes out, it's firmware shows up in the list when I search for upgrades.

Surely AB has some automated way to check for updates and/or flash firmware. I have to be doing it the wrong way, I can't believe people would put up with this shit from the 'market leader' in US automation.

TL;DR: What is the correct way to keep up to date with AOPs, Firmware, and EDS files.

Hey folks..

I'm in an interesting situation where I'm working on a remote PLC. I have access to the PLC, but not the VFDs on the PLC's local network. It is not really an issue that I can't talk directly to the VFDs from inside RSLogix Studio, since they are already setup and good to go as long as the PLC knows how to talk with them.

So, when I pull the code down with an 'upload', I get errors that the drives are not in my local EDS database. The issue is, I can't add them to my database, because allen bradley doesn't have versions new enough on their site as what the customer has in use currently.

My best path forward seems to be getting connected up to the drives and pulling down my own EDS, but I'm really frustrated that I can't find the latest ones online in the proper locations.
