Loading the Crossman 766 Air rifle

This listing is for a Factory Service Manual for the Crosman model 766 pump air rifle. This is a nice printed copy of an original factory service manual. Seven pages of invaluable information, including the Exploded View & Parts List. I have a crosman 766 which I bought in 1976. I believe that it is the first model (tapered plastic barrel). The gun is in excellent condition only does not hold air pressure for more than a few seconds. I have disassembled the valve and am pretty sure the problem is the leather seal inside of the valve.

The Crossman 766 fires a single .177 air rifle pellet, or multiple'BB's.

The .177 pellet is loaded in a breech on the righ hand side ofthe action. The breech is exposed by pulling back a lever with afinger sized hooked lever. The pellet is carefully dropped in withits front facing forward and the breech lever carefully pushedforward and locked down. Great care must be taken in case thepellet is disturbed as it slides into the neck of the barrel so avisual inspection of the pellet as it goes in is a good idea.

The rifle needs to be charged. This can be done either before orafter loading the pellet. To charge the rifle, grasp the wood-lookplastic piece under the barrel at its near end. It will come awayfrom the barrel, hinged at the front. This is an air pump andrepeatedly fully opening and then fully closing the lever willcharge the weapon. Less than two pumps will result in a pelletjamming in the barrel. 5 pumps will give good results for tin cansand 10 plus pumps will kill vermin at 25 yards..

The BB's go onto the base of the pistol grop behind the plasticcover found there, which slides forward. The long thin slider onthe left hand side of the action has something to do with the BB'stoo..

Remember if an air rifle shoots pellets use pellets because bb'swill mess up the guns accuracy.
