People say:
Battletech is fairly faithful to the FASA RPG/board game. The diversity of the missions and enemies are a welcome sight. The One-player Mode is really difficult to play, but Two-player really rocks. Major and I were able to get to the fourth level working together. The graphics and animation are something special. My only gripe is that you play a Clan mech, but you have no choice which one. This is one to get.
Hey, now this is pretty cool. Even though the game seems like it's meant for hardcore Battletech players, anyone could just get right into the action, but only if you've got two players. The game is really tough with one player. The attention to detail is immaculate and the challenge and fun factor don't wear off, even after many hours! Battletech will prove to be a sleeper hit among action and simulation fans!
This is one of those types of games that I just can't get into. All you do is go around a field and follow a set of orders to blow up designated areas of an enemy compound. I found it to be more of a tedious chore and got bored rather quickly. On the up side, the graphics were pretty good and I liked the awesome animation of the giant mech you pilot around. The many missions should satisfy those who want a long game.
This is a game you can only really appreciate with two players--try this alone and it will get rather maddening! This is a lot like Jungle Strike, with the slanted perspective and areas to attack. The levels get increasingly difficult as things go along. This is definitely not for all players, and some will obviously take to it more than others, I do think it's a must for fans of the RPG. It's a nice two-player incorporation.
Fire oozes from the core of a planet as a drop ship places you dangerously close to an open volcano. You must destroy the enemy's command center, but to do that involves taking out the protective force field that is powered by lava - the same lava that burns your mech's cooling system down to the very power coils that keep you alive. Stay sharp or you're in worse shape than a rat in a can of Coke; you'll just be charcoal at the enemy's barbecue.
So begins the second level of Absolute's latest frenzy of destruction: Battletech. You're at the helm of a 40-ton piece of machinery and your sole purpose is to blow things up. The purity of the machine is beautiful, as are the gameplay, graphics and sound in this super-fun game of mechanical mayhem. Most of the robots are direct rip-offs of the popular Anime series Robotech; but instead of dapper-looking cartoon pilots like Rick Hunter, you take the helm as a well-armed rookie looking to move up the ranks and get in one of the neat-o looking mechs reserved for vets.
Battletech features a ton of different levels, and better graphics than both Jungle and Desert Strike. If you're a fan of big destructive robots, or if you've ever stayed up late playing the Battletech RPG by the FASA corporation, you'll have even more fun with this war game for the Gennie.
Graphics
A Jungle Strike perspective Mixed with Battletech styling gives a sleek and destructive look to this game of close combat warfare. The mechs look hot and the explosions are great. They should have worked a bit on terrain.
Sound/Music
Missiles whistle, machine guns rat-a-tat-tat and buildings explode with emphasis. Just what you'd expect from a top-notch action/war game.
Playability
Your mech is cool because it can fix its firing mechanism on one target while circling around to avoid enemy fire. Once you get the hang of this tactic, you'll blast the enemy like Dave Alvin.
LOWDOWN
This is a great war game. It lakes equal parts strategy, skill, and luck lo get through the tough levels. Choose your weapons wisely because - like plumbing - you need the right fool for the job. You may be tired of Jungle Strike games, but I thought this one was a lot more fun. I'm going to go out and buy this game.
There were few other games of this kind back in the 80s, when Battletech was published on the market. The BattleDroids were spectacular robots, although the game was unfortunately not taken enough care of because of the conflicts with George Lucas' company and lawsuits. There was unfortunately not the option to change out pieces of a mech (or droid), but only to equip a classification of the mech. Weapons and armor were easy to change, just like in a first-person shooter. Too bad the menu had to be used in order to fire individual weapons, it took more time than enough.
A Game Of Armored Combat.
Marauding Mech Mayhem:
- You start World 2 under the timer. You have 160 seconds to find and destroy two launch sites before they can send off a shipment of parts. You have only a few seconds of leeway and little room for error. This is where the game starts to get hard!
- Satalyce is a hot planet. The terrain is your worst enemy. Each time you cross pits or cracks, you pick up heat.
- You'll find recharge items near your drop-off point in each world. More are hidden inside buildings and by target objectives. The more you destroy, the more you find. 4.Battle on Ridderkerk gives a new meaning to cold as death. Walk on ice, and you slide. The force of firing will push you backward. If you're really good, you can slide and shoot.
- Press Start during game play to access the radar screen. You, and everything you can use, is shown in blue. Red is the color of your enemy.
- Your first objective in World 1 is to destroy the radar towers.
- Help! You've fallen and you can't get up of smoldering metal and sizzling flesh. Failure means the smell yours.
- Galaxy Commander Colonel Ward gives you missions before you drop onto each world. You can access mission information by pressing Start, then Button C.
- Inner Sphere 'Mechs on Ridderkerk are much bigger and badder. And with no radar, you can't see them coming.
- To get into the Draconis Combine, you must first destroy the four power pylons. The energy they generate can heat you up faster than tinfoil in a microwave.
- Material Gathering Sites are easy to slag but are usually well guarded. Some of the locations hide much-needed coolant.
- Mechs are your most difficult enemies. Once your guns are locked on, you can run and keep them under lire as long as the fire button is held down. This guy's getting toasty!
- These Mechs are mean and fast. Bui a wall and a Gauss Rifle will give you the definite.
- You choose armaments from three basic groups. The Gauss Rifle, Laser, and Missiles are good all-purpose selections.
Test your mettle:
It's 3050 and the Clans are at war against the armies of the Inner Sphere. The Clans need a brave (suicidal?) Mech Warrior to pilot the new Madcat Heavy Omni-Tech, the baddest ‘Mech around. Your mission: Create havoc in the Inner Sphere by delivering mass destruction to their armies.
Battletech does an awesome job of bringing the high-tech world of Mech Warriors to your Genesis. True fans will appreciate the way the ‘Mechs move, pivot, and fire. Inveterate gamers won't be disappointed by wimpy game play, either. It is one of the most difficult games we've played this year. Each of the five worlds has at least three missions and enemies everywhere you look. The game starts hard, then proceeds to crank it up with each successive world until, by World 5, you're either begging for mercy or the greatest MechWarrior alive.
This Beaut s Got Everything hut Air:
Your ‘Mech carries three types of weapons: one type for Button A, one for Button B, and one for Button C. The A-Button weapons tend to be slow, powerful, and able to shoot over obstacles. The B-Button weapons are most like machine guns. The C-Button weapons are either missiles or mines.
Recharges can be found scattered around each of the five huge worlds in which you carry out the missions. Your biggest advantages: size and firepower. Your biggest enemies: high explosives and heat. Explosives will damage your armor into incapacity. Enough heat will make you sizzle like chicken in a deep fat fryer.
And your ‘Mech can turn on a dime and pick it up, almost. You can move in all cardinal and diagonal directions, causing impressive amounts of destruction as you go. Lock on to an enemy, and the Automatic Fire Control System allows you to move while still directing fire on him. Of course, enemy ‘Mechs can do the same to you. Pressing the Start button will call up the computer afar, which gives you access to your mission and status screens. Battletech really gets interesting in two-player mode. You play one ‘Mech, with player one controlling the Madcat's weapons and player two doing the driving.
Overview:
Ever wanted to have 40 tons of solid steel strength? Ever thought about being 70 feet tall and able to flame, fry, sizzle, stomp, and blast anything that ticks you off? You're ready for Battletech, the hot one- or two-player Mech-Warrior title from Extreme Entertainment. Based on the world-famous board game, book series, and virtual-reality amusement center phenomenon, Battletech on Genesis drops you into the cockpit of a seven-story tall ‘Mech for a running battle across five worlds. Complete all your missions, and the galaxy will be reunited. You'll receive a Bloodname and glory in the Wolf Clan. Lose, and you'll feel your ‘Mech melting around your ears as the last chance for peace slips away forever. Bummer.
Basic Strategy: Survival:
The object of Battletech is simple. Brutally simple. Destroy your targets and stay alive. Everything that moves is out for your armor-plated hide. After receiving your mission sets, use your radar to see where the targets lie and what enemies stand in your way. In areas where your radar has been destruction as you go. Lock on to an enemy, and the Automatic Fire Control System allows you to move while still directing fire on him. Of course, enemy ‘Mechs can do the same to you. Pressing the Start button will call up the computer radar, which gives you access to your mission and status screens. Battletech really gets interesting in two-player mode. You play one ‘Mech, with player one controlling the Madcat's weapons and player two doing the driving. Basic Strategy: Survival The object of Battletech is simple. Brutally simple. Destroy your targets and stay alive. Everything that moves is out for your armor-plated hide. After receiving your mission sets, use your radar to see where the targets lie and what enemies stand in your way. In areas where your radar has been jammed, you must first take out the jamming stations. Without radar, you can see enemies only as your movements bring them onscreen. Move too fast, and you can wind up in an ambush, get heated up, and loose a life before you have a chance to return fire.
Your best chance for survival lies in taking each world a small section at a time, wiping out your enemies in small groups. Of course, this doesn't apply when you start a timed mission. Then go for broke, try to locate and destroy your objectives before time is up, and prepare to lose a few lives. The good news is that you get three lives at the start of each world. You'll need them all if you want to survive.

Hot Hint's:
- Use radar to scout an area before you go on the attack. Taking out enemies one at a time reduces the amount of heat you take.
- Don't pick up coolant until you really need it. Once it's uncovered, you can return to pick it up.
- The Laser is the best all-around B-Button weapon.
- The A-Button weapons can fire over walls. Barriers can keep small enemies from melting your metal while you dish out some doom.
- In areas where your radar in jammed, move slowly so that you don't ru.
You have to imagine how cool it would be to pilot one of those AT-AT Walkers from The Empire Strikes Back. Mowing down those puny Rebel scum that scurry beneath your guarantuan mechanical feet. Blasting everything that moves and crushing anything that gets in your way. There you go, that's the spirit!
Battletech will leave you smiling. It is tremedous fun. I have to confess to a lack of knowledge regarding this whole Battletech phenomenon but, from what I gather, the structure of the game is based on it's board game roots.
Your Mech can turn on a dime and the spin and shoot movements of the upper torso give you precise finger twitching response. You'll be blasting things before you even see them. You can definitely feel the weight of each crunching foot step even though the camera view of the action is strictly from a bird's eye perspective.
Mission
The missions are expertly crafted to keep you on your toes. Battletech game does not have the same somewhat, loping pace of the Strike series. You can't just figure out the safe paths, stick to them and complete your objectives piece by piece.
Enemies
The enemy Mechs are relentless. They'll hunt you down like Tommy Lee Jones from 'The Fugitive'. When you hear that incoming Mech warning, you better hope you're not close to overheating, 'cause there's gonna be a firefight to deal with son. And, you best be prepared.
Graphics
The graphics in Battletech won't make you cry but they will impress. There is quite a lot of detail; more attention to the enviroment is payed than was in the Strike games. And, because your Mech is quite rooted to the ground (Ka-thump, Ka-thump..) it is susceptible to earthly dangers, such as pockets of molten lava and geysers of intense burning rocks. You know, just the kind of stuff you see on your way to work.

Overall
Take control of a Matcat Mech as you fight your way through several level of mechanized mayhem. Use machine guns, rocket launchers, homing missiles, flame throwers, mines and atomic bombs to defeat the encroaching enemy threat. The different levels have different terrains, such as snow, ice and swamps which affect the progress of your mech. In Battletech you can also kill the littler mechs by stomping on them, which is always fun.
Battletech Tabletop Game
The year is 3050. Wars are fought with seven-story BattleMechs armed with the deadliest weapons known in the galaxy. These sixty-ton hunks of metal are piloted by MechWarriors, the only ones brave enough to fight the ruthless armies of the Inner Sphere in the name of their Clans.
Nine futuristic weapons are available in Battletech to outfit your Mech, including: a Gauss Rifle, Arrow VI Missiles, Particle Projection Cannon, Machine Gun, Auto Gun, Large Laser, 'Inferno' Short-Range Missiles, 'Maelstrom' Long-range Missiles, and 'Thunder' Time-delay Mines. You are free to choose any three of these weapons to complete your mission objectives, which involve taking out various structures on the ground. As you pilot your Mech across the battlefield, you'll have to watch for mines, enemy Mechs and defense systems.
